Overflowing with the Desire to Write
In 2009, shortly after establishing the brand, I launched a personal blog titled “Parfum Satori’s Fragrance Travelogue.”
It was born from an overflowing desire to write.
Not merely about perfume, but about literature, botanicals, Japanese aesthetics, cuisine, music, and art, all told through the lens of scent.
It was an era when perfume was not yet a part of daily life in Japan. Statistics from that time showed that nearly 80% of people used no perfume at all, or used it very rarely.
The very existence of a niche fragrance brand in Japan was, for all intents and purposes, virtually unknown.
An Unconventional Path to Perfume
At that time, many readers stumbled upon the site not by searching for perfume itself.
They arrived through searches for book titles, ingredient names, or flower descriptions that appeared in my posts.
I vividly remember one visitor who found an article by searching “What is Amber?“
They came to the atelier saying, “I want to see the real thing.”
People like this—
those who became interested in perfume through the articles,
wondered who made them,
learned there was a Japanese perfumer,
visited the atelier,
and began wearing perfume for the first time—
account for a significant portion of our customers.
There were times I hesitated to write about topics other than perfume.
However, I am now truly glad that words and subjects adjacent to scent served as a gateway.
They deepened interest in fragrance itself
and created opportunities for people to encounter perfume.
About the Fragrance Journal
A sanctuary for scent encounters
This Fragrance Journal differs slightly from my personal blog.
Rather than stopping at superficial descriptions of perfumes, we aim to explore scent from various angles.
Through this approach, we hope you can sense the philosophy and ideals we cherish
through the background of our fragrances.
