On April 1, 2024, PARFUM SATORI's "Murasaki no Ue" was renewed with a fresh formulation.
This fragrance is inspired by Murasaki no Ue, the iconic heroine from The Tale of Genji, Japan’s most beloved classical literature. It evokes the graceful transformation of the young girl Wakamusaraki as she blossoms into a refined woman after meeting Hikaru Genji. A scent that expresses gentle elegance, intelligence, and inner charm.
The fragrance opens with the juicy freshness of Japanese grapes, leading into a luminous floral heart of rose and jasmine, enhanced by the delicate sweetness of lily of the valley. These bright florals are softened by a sheer veil of transparent musk. At the base lies a whisper of PARFUM SATORI’s original “Genji-koh” accord―an homage to classical incense.

The Tale of Genji is often regarded as the world’s first full-length romance novel. Though written over a thousand years ago during Japan’s Heian period, its depiction of love and complex human relationships still feels timeless. The story also provides insight into the culture, aesthetics, and courtly life of ancient Japan.
Despite being a classical work, The Tale of Genji has earned critical acclaim worldwide and has been translated into over 30 languages. It is sometimes referenced in diplomatic settings as a symbol of Japanese cultural literacy.
The author, Murasaki Shikibu, was a court lady and one of the most celebrated female writers in Japanese history. Her name was later given to the plant Murasaki Shikibu (Callicarpa japonica), known for its clusters of vivid purple berries in autumn. Though the small pinkish flowers that bloom in spring are modest, they emit a soft, woody-powdery fragrance.
